Manager of Instructional Design


Professional Development Department

Position overview:

The Manager of Instructional Design will further the Teaching Strategies mission by developing professional development sessions/services that support the implementation of the company's strategic objectives.  The position is responsible for the analysis of and methodology for designing training content negotiates relationships with internal and external content experts to create instructional models that will contribute to the overall quality implementation of Teaching Strategies' products and resources. 

 
Specific roles and responsibilities:

General Duties

  • Develop a thorough knowledge of Teaching Strategies curriculum products and PD services
  • Develop standards, templates, and processes to guide the development of professional development sessions and services
  • Define project scope including but not limited to time frames, responsibilities, schedules, and evaluation
  • Work with subject matter experts to identify session goals, analyze target audience, learning environments and links to existing published and non-print product resources
  • Oversee creation of session outlines; structure content and activities for participant learning; create media to support learning (e.g., visual aids, various multimedia for e-learning and online) and organize in deliverable format for trainers
  • Coordinate with independent consultants in the Staff Development Network (SDN) to develop professional development sessions/services
  • Revise and rewrite existing training content based on editorial, content experts, client and user comments
  • Utilize knowledge of "best practices" and innovative teaching methods to make instructional design models more effective
  • Adapt instructional materials created for one format to another
  • Coordinate project timelines and deliverables with editorial, creative services and information technology
  • Ensure that all deliverables are met on schedule and within budget

Other Duties

  • Participate in establishing ideas, comments, and priorities for the 3-5 year professional development plan
  • Work with SDN Manager to define and manage scope of work for contracts with SDN trainer consultants
  • Collaborate with SDN Manager to provide trainer kit materials to SDN
  • Facilitate and attend debriefs of pilot sessions to determine strengths and weaknesses of training design and identify necessary improvements

Qualifications:

  • BA., Instructional Design or equivalent, Master's preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of instructional design experience
  • Proven ability to use instructional technology and/or educational technology as tools for developing instruction
  • Knowledge of and practical experience applying adult learning theories
  • Experience in staff/professional development
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work quickly and accurately, and handle multiple tasks with maximum flexibility
  • Early childhood experience a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Desire to work in a highly collaborative, creative, and challenging environment.
  • High degree of motivation and flexibility

Location:
Our office is located in Bethesda, MD, near mass transit on a major thoroughfare.
