Parent Resources for Family Child Care Programs

Parents and educators want children to. . .

  • read, write, and speak well
  • solve challenging math problems
  • speak and write well
  • be creative
  • make decisions independently
  • have good study skills
  • have friends and be self-confident
  • enjoy learning and love school

Of course they do! Working together, parents and educators can do a lot to facilitate development of these important life skills.

Research shows that, during the earliest years, children's brains are making billions of connections and literally creating "hard wiring" for lifelong learning. And that's not all--these connections are also establishing patterns for emotional, social, and physical development!  Our resources for parents show them how they can help facilitate growth and development and what you do in the classroom.

We offer four booklets in English and Spanish (and one in Japanese) that are sold to educators in sets of 10 for easy distribution to parents.

  • Building Your Baby's Brain is a simply-written booklet, packed full of illustrations and helpful charts that explains what scientists know about brain development and shows how a few simple things parents do every day can make a big difference. Available in sets of ten in English and Spanish.

  • A Parent's Guide to Infant and Toddler Programs shows parents how warm and responsive care--at home and in child care--helps shape the future development of infants and toddlers and their ability to learn. It outlines what and how children learn during these crucial years and suggests ways that caregivers/teachers and parents can work together. This book is available in English and Spanish in sets of 10.
  • A Parent's Guide to Preschool helps you explain a "developmentally appropriate" curriculum to parents. Our illustrated Parent's Guide shows how preschool children learn best through active exploration--not through drills, workbooks, or rote memorization, and explains what children learn through play. This book is available in English, Spanish, and Japanese in sets of 10.
