LearningGames and the Family Child Care Curriculum

Included as part of The Creative Curriculum® for Family Child Care is a set of 68 LearningGames activities. They are a resource you can share with families and use in your own work with children. Four or five LearningGames activities are described at the end of each of the chapters on Routines and Experiences; one for each age group from birth to age 5, along with suggestions for sharing them with families. The activities were selected from a set of 200 LearningGames that have been validated by over 20 years of research showing positive gains for children that last through school-age and into early adulthood.

Each of the LearningGames shows how everyday interactions and games adults play with children lead to positive relationships and important learning. Each illustrated game sheet includes:

  • Information on what the child is experiencing
  • How she or he may react to the game
  • An explanation of why the activity is important for the child's development
  • Clear directions
  • Ideas for expanding on the activity
  • A children's book that is related to something in the game
