Teaching Strategies' Efforts Around the WorldTeaching Strategies is committed to supporting the early childhood community across the globe so that, together with professionals and families, we can help to build strong foundations for young children. Teaching Strategies concurs with each of the Education for All goals agreed upon by the UNESCO member countries in 1990 and reaffirmed in 2000. We know that critical brain development occurs during the period from birth to age 5, and high-quality early childhood education plays an integral role in that development. Research conducted in numerous countries demonstrates the positive effects of high-quality early childhood education on student achievement and later success. Close your eyes and ask yourself, "What do we, as a society, want for our children?" When we at Teaching Strategies ask ourselves this question, the words happiness, safety, success, acceptance, well-being, and caring for others come to mind. These ideals guide our work. In international work, we explore this question and the nature of early childhood in many different countries. We have learned that, while there are important distinctions between nations' systems of early care and education, some of the fundamentals of early childhood are global. They transcend the cultural, geographical, and socioeconomic differences that make each state or province, country, and region unique. With new resources and services, Teaching Strategies works collaboratively to meet the diverse and constantly evolving needs of the early childhood community. We currently support early childhood programs internationally by offering a wide variety of practical, innovative, and developmentally appropriate materials and resources. Additionally, we work with foreign governments, agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and nonprofits at the local, state, and national levels to build and strengthen early childhood systems. We are also actively engaged with the global early childhood community through our support of and participation in the World Forum on Early Care and Education.
