Teaching Strategies' National, State, and Community Efforts
Teaching Strategies is heavily involved in efforts to in improve early childhood education, at the national, state, and community levels.
National Efforts
- Numerous members of the Teaching Strategies team serve our community by sitting on boards and being active members of early childhood organizations and associations.
- A Teaching Strategies staff member is a former officer and current member of the National Association of Early Childhood Specialists in State Departments of Education (NAECS/SDE).
State Efforts
- We actively support efforts to secure additional state and federal funding for early childhood education and to promote ways in which federal and state prekindergarten dollars can be used together to serve preschool children effectively and efficiently.
- Diane Trister Dodge, the president and founder of Teaching Strategies, led the process with other Teaching Strategies staff members to develop the District of Columbia's early learning standards.
- Diane also chaired the Subcommittee on Professional Development of the D.C. Mayor's Advisory Committee on Early Childhood Development.
- Diane, along with other DC advocates, led the charge to restore $6.2 million in funding for early childhood services in the District's FY200607 budget.
- After Hurricane Katrina, we worked directly with the New Orleans' community to provide cost-effective solutions so that young children are able to grow, learn, and thrive even in a time of crisis. We continue to support the preschools in New Orleans. To learn more, please visit the Louisiana State page.
Community Efforts
- Teaching Strategies recently formed a Community Outreach Team to organize volunteer opportunities for our staff members to become involved in D.C. metro projects. Through this work, we will support the community where our own children are growing up and learning.
- Two members of the Government and International Programs Team volunteered at NAEYC's Service Day during the 17th National Institute for Early Childhood Professional Development.
