Professional Development

Great classrooms and programs begin with well-trained staff members who are enthusiastic about effectively implementing their assessment systems. To successfully implement assessment systems, it is crucial to offer ongoing learning opportunities. For our assessment tools and products, Teaching Strategies offers a variety of year-round profesional development opportunities. Click here for a complete list.

On-Site Professional Development

Because a good professional development plan includes follow-up of the initial presentation, Teaching Strategies works with programs to develop a customized program.

The most efficient way to begin the process is to complete our On-Site Professional Development Needs Assessment Form. The information you provide helps us select one of our Staff Development Network Trainers for your program.

We recommend that you complete the On-Site Professional Development Needs Assessment Form and make your request for on-site training no less than two months in advance, especially during the popular summer months. Once your form has been reviewed by our staff, a member of our team will contact you to begin the planning process.

An intimate training setting within Teaching Strategies' headquarters, the Center gives educators the opportunity to meet Teaching Strategies' authors, engage with the latest thinking in early childhood education, and network with peers from around the country. A convenient year-round schedule enables teachers and administrators to customize their professional development program with a range of sessions from introductory to advanced.

CreativeCurriculum.net Training

CreativeCurriculum.net is an easy-to-use, all-in-one system that combines the comprehensive assessment tools of The Creative Curriculum® Developmental Continuum Assessment Toolkit for Ages 3-5 and The Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos Developmental Continuum Assessment Toolkit.

There are many ways subscribers learn about CreativeCurriculum.net! Paid subscribers are entitled to:

  • free instructor-led orientations for site administrators
  • one-day Technical Training Seminar
  • interactive tutorials for the most heavily used functions
  • detailed user's guides with step-by-step instructions
  • free technical support by e-mail, chat, and phone
  • implementation planning and support by a dedicated implementation manager

Free System Orientations

Each subscription includes a demonstration/orientation for administrators or other key staff that is delivered via the Internet. The orientation sessions are scheduled several times each month, and allow users to participate right from their own desks! Participants simply register in advance, type a specified address into their browsers, and dial into a teleconference to participate in a live orientation of the major features of the site.

CreativeCurriculum.net Technical Training Seminars

Subscribers may attend hands-on technical training seminars for administrators, supervisors, or trainers that are offered at regular intervals throughout the year. Registration for the seminars is managed by our Professional Development Department. The seminars are delivered in small computer labs or in our Professional Development Center so every participant can benefit from direct instruction on all of the functions of the system.

Additional Training by Contract

We believe the technical aspects of CreativeCurriculum.net are secondary to the day-to-day classroom work teachers do to document each child's progress. Because the system is so user-friendly, and there are many resources for help, the one-hour orientation should be enough to get key staff (trainers, supervisors, administrators, and/or technical staff) ready to train teachers on the online system. But, if there's a need for more training, we recommend that subscribers invest in training on The Creative Curriculum for Preschool Developmental Continuum Assessment System for Ages 3-5 for CreativeCurriculum.net users, which is delivered on-site or at one of our summer conferences.

On-site Training and Summer Conference Workshops on Assessment

Workshops on The Creative Curriculum for Preschool Developmental Continuum Assessment System for Ages 3-5 for CreativeCurriculum.net users are designed for teachers and administrators to focus on the appropriate implementation of our assessment system. Participants learn how to observe and record observations, make decisions about each child's progress on the Developmental Continuum and how to translate those skills using the online system. This workshop does not include hands-on work on the computer, but are provided with a demonstration of key elements of the online system as they relate to the assessment process itself.
