Dear Friends,
I know that all of us have been deeply saddened by the destruction that the 2005 hurricanes have caused in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida. Teaching Strategies is engaged in a number of recovery efforts to bring back some normalcy to the lives of the children in these affected areas. I want to let you know about some of our efforts so you can help get the word out to programs in need.
To assist teachers in helping children after the hurricanes, Teaching Strategies' curriculum expert Cate Heroman collaborated with Jenna Bilmes, a noted mental health expert, to create Helping Children Rebound. These resources provide guidance to teachers caring for both preschool children and infants and toddlers on how to address the emotional needs of children who have been affected by these tragedies.
In addition to the thousands of free booklets donated to the teachers in the hurricane affected areas, Teaching Strategies dedicated its resources to raising funds for the Louisiana Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (LAEHCY). By working with its employees, staff development specialists, authors, and consultants, Teaching Strategies doubled every dollar contributed to raise over $22,000 for LAEHCY. Currently, Teaching Strategies is working with the Recovery School District in Orleans Parish, LA to rebuild their early childhood classrooms.
I hope you will join Teaching Strategies, Inc. in our efforts to help the children of the affected areas rebuild their lives.
Sincerely,
Diane Trister Dodge
