These proven, interactive games, intended for families with children up to age 5, successfully promote fundamental early childhood learning through flexible and simple daily activities.
Every game offers suggestions for helping families interact with their children, a list of necessary materials, and ways to adapt the game to their children’s ability levels. Families will gain insight into what their children are experiencing, how they may react, and why the activity is important for their children’s development.
LearningGames are ideal for use in home visiting programs, in family child care settings, in parent-education classes, and as send-home materials for families. The LearningGames series is validated by over 30 years of rigorous scientific research showing positive gains that last through school age and into early adulthood.
History of LearningGames: The Abecedarian Project
Developed as the curriculum for the Abecedarian Project, LearningGames was the first scientifically validated infant-toddler curriculum. The Abecedarian Project, one of the longest-running and most respected child care studies nationwide, began in 1972 and featured 111 at-risk infants who received the LearningGames curriculum from birth to 60 months of age.
The lead author of LearningGames is Joseph Sparling, PhD, one of the original creators of the Abecedarian Studies.
The Abecedarian Studies examined the effects of LearningGames® and other early intervention strategies on at-risk children. Research results from the Abecedarian Studies have been published in hundreds of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals, and have been covered by the mainstream press, including Newsweek, Time, and major network news programs.
