Product Overview

Celebrating Language and Literacy for Infants, Toddlers & Twos

Build your staff’s language and literacy teaching skills and help teachers use their knowledge to involve families in children’s learning.

This DVD features two training videos: Celebrating Language and Literacy for Infants, Toddlers & Twos which explores the development of early literacy skills in the context of caring relationships with adults, and Strategies for Early Language and Literacy Development which demonstrates how everyday routines, experiences, and environments support children’s language development.

The included User’s Guide offers tips for using these videos in teacher and family workshops.

The first video, Celebrating Language and Literacy for Infants, Toddlers & Twos, shows how early literacy skills develop within the context of caring relationships and experiences with families, providers, and communities. It provides examples of the many ways that language and literacy develops in a variety of cultures and languages, and demonstrates how adults can help very young children read the world around them.

The second video, Strategies for Early Language and Literacy Development, shows how everyday routines, experiences, and environments provide the tools for literacy through

  • nurturing relationships
  • listening and talking
  • discovering the world through words and experiences
  • modeling
  • symbols
  • sounds
  • rhyme, rhythm, and songs
  • experiences with print and writing
  • enjoyable experiences with books

Includes: DVD, subtitled, 43 min.; User’s Guide
