Chairs	Every day, children sit on objects that vary in size, materials, color, and function. The study of things to sit on offers opportunities to investigate familiar objects and explore the characteristics and physical properties of different kinds of seats, their construction, as well as how people use particular kinds of seats.
Wheels	As children investigate wheels, they will explore physical science concepts about the characteristics and properties of wheels, how wheels move, the construction of wheels, and friction. They will learn about how people live, work, and travel, and how wheels have changed over time.
Water Pipes	Children are curious about where water goes into and comes out of pipes. They love to look inside pipes and experiment with the flow of water. In this study, children learn about the characteristics of water, what pipes are made of, how water gets from one place to another, and how people depend upon water.
Trash & Garbage	Trash and garbage are in our homes, on the streets, and in places where we work and play. A study of trash and garbage offers opportunities for firsthand exploration, information gathering, consciousness raising, and problem solving.
Shadows	Most children are fascinated by shadows. As they explore, children will discover that shadows move when we move; both living and nonliving things have shadows; shadows are indoors and outdoors; shadows can be large, small, tall, short, wide, or narrow.
Exercise	This study uses children's natural desire to move as a springboard for learning. Children explore many types of exercise, observe people exercising, learn about the mechanics of movement, and about how exercise affects the body.
